Victory Lap ND-34SOL Solenoid Repair Kit worked well for replacing copper battery side and motor side contacts. But, the plunger rod was too short for my car 1996 Subaru Legacy Outback 2.2L MT. I wiped clean the original plunger copper contact as it does not wear as quickly as the another contacts, put all together, and reinstalled in vehicle--with successful results. As an afterthought, I called the 800 number on the package (Victory Lap--CPI Parts Division) to advise them about the "short" plunger. Three days later I had the correct plunger come in the mail. Response from company was great. Would have given a rating of 5 had all the correct materials been included first time--product packaging included my year/model/vehicle as a direct fit. Would certainly do business again with vendor though. They may get this problem fixed soon, hopefully.

I saw product on other sites, however Amazon was best price I found.

These methods only tell you if the alternator is charging, not how well it actually works. To do that, you need to take it to a shop where they can put a load on the electrical system and measure the amperage, also known as a VAT-40 test.

Great Price Dorman 615-175 Intake Manifold

Great Price! Great Product! Dorman 615-175 Intake Manifold : The stock plastic intake on my 2000 Mustang GT finally cracked right where the upper radiator hose attaches to the manifold. I needed an intake fast to get my car back on the road so I ordered the Dorman 615-175 manifold.

I have read good and bad things about the Dorman VS the Ford replacement. Folks on several Mustang forums say the Dorman has smaller runners than the Ford & that the performance isn't as good. Well, I'm here to tell you the performance on a mostly stock 4.6 with the Dorman intake is noticeably BETTER than with the Ford intake!

The slightly smaller runners actually increase the velocity of the incoming air which gives a very noticeable increase in performance in the low to mid RPM range with no noticeable ill effect at high RPM all the way to redline.

On a car with performance camshafts & reworked heads the Dorman is probably not the best choice, but if you have the stock cams and heads you WILL feel a noticeable increase in torque. Way to go Dorman! :-)

Redid my 01 Grand Marquis. If you get organized beforehand, you can get the old one off in 2 hrs and the new one on in about the same time.*** I would budget 6- 8 hrs though if you are a newbie like me. ***

Tips:

  1. label all vacuum connections with tape before disconnecting,
  2. Remove wipers, winshield cowling and wiper motor (easy off and big time /space saver)
  3.  Remove throttle body but leave accelerator cables connected and set is to side in engine compartment (big time saver).
  4.  Not a bad idea/time to change your water pump (30- 40 dollar item) since its accessible when you have other stuff off.
  5.  Follow torque specs exactly because a) thing is mostly plastic (dont wanna crack it) and b) you want an even seal
  6.  Use common sense - i have a ford service cd that has you disconnecting the EGR tube (hard line) at the EGR valve AND cat converter - only need to disconnect at EGR -duh.
Tools - standard and metric sockets and wrenches - fuel line disconnect tool - torque wrench - maybe some throttle body cleaner since you'll have it off - some MAP/MAF sensor cleaner too.... new plugs while your at it. Runs like a charm!

Perfect fit ! Dorman 615-178 Intake Manifold

Great item and fit at a bargain price! I bought this manifold from amazon and installed it for my father-inlaw's mercury after calling the mercury dealer and was told the intake manifold they had was $600, Everthing fit perfect, but I wish the site stated that it has its own gasket built into the manifold, because I ordered a manifold gasket too, the Item (gasket) return process online was real EASY!!!. MANIFOLD fit perfect, but you have to make sure you clean the head contact surface on the engine REAL GOOD before you install the manifold. I used an an air rotary tool with an abrasive pad ( looks like a green scotch brite pad) and air compressor and cleaned the heads REAL GOOD! before I installed and torqued the intake manifold bolts 18 LBS with a torque wrench in the order the instruction sheet that came with the part instructed. it's been about three days and so far no leaks or running problems, Very happy with fit and quality of Manifold. Everthing that I buy from Amazon has been excellent!!!

Good Kit , Nice and Easy! Gates 38342K Serpentine Belt Drive Component Kit , Works OK, first my Caravan with a 3.0l has never thrown the belt so I guess I am a lucky one. I needed a new tensioner but at $79 itself I figured the kit was the way to go. Well built and easy to install. I will give step by step instructions how I did it.

Tools needed:
Jack
Jack stand
15MM shallow socket 12 or 6 point(3/8)
15MM deep socket 12 or 6 point(3/8)
10MM deep socket
3/8 ratchet
3/8 breaker bar (optional)

How to:
1) Remove battery pos+ cable or neg- cable.
2) Jack up passenger side of vehicle on frame rail.
3) PLACE JACK STAND UNDER PASSENGER SIDE OF VEHICLE.
4) Use 3/8 breaker bar and 15MM shallow socket to remove old belt. (Can use ratchet, breaker bar gave me more leverage.)
5) Use 15MM shallow socket and ratchet to remove idler pulley.
6) Use 15MM deep socket to remove BACK bolt of alternator.
7) Use 15MM shallow to remove front bolt on alternator.
8) Rotate alternator to access the plug and output wire.
9) Unplug plug from alternator, use 10MM socket to remove output wire.
10) Jiggle-twist alternator to remove from vehicle.
11) From above (in the area where alternator was) use 15MM deep socket to remove tensioner.
12) Reinstall tensioner using the factory nut.
13) Install idler pulley using new supplied bolt.
14) Reinstall alternator reversing above steps.
15) Thread belt from above, over alternator, under idler pulley then with a piece of wire/zip tie secure belt to stop it from falling out of place.
16) Climb underneath vehicle (YOU DO HAVE A JACK STAND UNDER IT, RIGHT?) and route belt around crank and power steering pulleys.
17) Back on top of the engine use the 15MM shallow socket and breaker bar (or ratchet) to rotate tensioner clockwise.
18) The belt will be tight but it will go, I put it on the tensioner last but some have said it's easier to put it on the idler pulley last.
19) Connect battery.
20) Start vehicle watching to make sure the belt runs true on all pulleys.
21) Celebrate.

This took me about 20 minutes. I do have pretty good mechanical abilities though.

    Gates 38379K Component Kit

    The Gates 38379K Enhancement Component Kit is the way to serpentine belts slippage off the pulleys. Before talk about the problem, I can assure you that the Gates 38379K Component Kit  is the solution. No squeaking, no misalignment on the tension pulley, just quiet operation. It's surprising what a difference this kit makes. I had been hesitant to do the job myself, but was able to discover information and facts, on the net, and apply it in a few hours. I thought I'd post the info for the next guy. The difficult part, bar none, is removing/installing the tensioner and tension pulley. The other hardest part is installing the new belt. The third most difficult? Believing the difference. It's unreal how much better this works!

    Remove the tensioner as follows:

    <- After disconnecting -- the negative battery cable -- and -- removing the serpentine belt ->
    1. Remove the windshield wiper tray and remove the two wipers (16mm nuts), 6 torx screws and remove the top piece. Four 13mm nuts and 6 13mm bolts inside the tray. Be sure to disconnect the electrics on the right side, the two drains, and the spray line on the left. You now have plenty of room to...
    2. Remove the alternator/bracket. First, remove the 15mm and two 14mm bolts from the triangle shaped accessory bracket. Remove the top 15mm bolt from the alternator and loosen the bottom 15mm bolt. Push the alternator to the rear to access the nut for the bottom alternator bolt. The positive cable for the alternator is attached with a 10mm nut...be careful not to lose it. You don't have to remove the alternator, just position it away.
    3. The rear nut for the tensioner. This is a bear. If you look down into the small space you have created by moving the alternator, you will glimpse the shy 15mm nut that is holding the tensioner. IF you have a thin enough 15mm box end wrench, you might be able to get it around the nut. Otherwise, use an open end wrench to loosen, then your finger to spin the nut off. Be careful, and have a magnet handy for the dropped nut. Luckily, there isn't much room below the nut, so it usually falls on the power steering unit. Still, unless you have very small hands and long fingers, you'll need the magnet.

    Installation:

    The new tensioner mounts fairly easily, but getting the nut on the bolt takes some patience. I needed a piece of thin cardboard cut to hold the nut in place, place the nut down in the space and spin the tensioner to catch the nut. Once caught, position the tensioner, spin the nut on with your finger and tighten it with the wrench.

    Remove the idler pulley with a 15mm wrench, and save the bolt and insert. The bolt in the kit was too long for my car , so I reused the bolt and insert on the new idler pulley. You can not use a socket on this.

    Once you have the tensioner and pulley in place, reinstall the alternator and bracket.

    The belt is very tight to install, but it can be done with a helper: One pulls the tensioner down, one pulls the belt around the air conditioning pulley, spinning the pulley while guiding the belt around. (Tip: If you've removed the rain shield from the underside of the engine, you can use the old belt to pull a 15mm wrench on the tensioner by looping it around and stepping on it.) You'll have to get the tensioner all the way down to install the belt!

    Eyeball the belt to see that it's on all the pulleys, if so, start the car and check. Lovely sound, isn't it? No squeal!

    Install the tray in the reverse of removal. Don't forget the drains and the squirt tube! When you're finished, be sure to put the sticker from the kit next to the belt diagram, so you can remember the belt size when you have to replace it in ten years :^)

    My wife can't believe the difference, and neither can I. My neighbors no longer wear ear protection when we back out of the driveway! It's like a stealth car! Honestly, this is a great piece of kit, and I recommend it to anyone with a defective serpentine belt system.
